Brain Tumor Translational Resource (BTTR)

The BTTR is a resource funded in good part by generous donations to the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Program and to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and also by the Brain Tumor Funders Collaborative (BTFC).  It is designed to speed access for UCLA brain tumor researchers to patient biospecimens and to provide relevant neuropathology expertise.  The goal is to reduce the time involved in completing clinical translational and therapeutic studies.  William Yong M.D., Associate Clinical Professor, directs the laboratory.   The lab is identifying procedures and methods to best collect and store biospecimens and to provide them as well as derivatives such as tissue sections, DNA and RNA in an expeditious manner.  The laboratory has been leveraging informatics and technological advances such as whole slide digital imaging to enhance choosing tissues for study.  We are in the process of prospectively archiving whole slide digital images of all glioma specimens at UCLA.  The lab has developed a novel, camera-linked software for tracking biomaterials and is evaluating radio-frequency identification-tag (RFID) technology.  The laboratory is also heavily involved in assessing clinical trial tumor biomarkers predictive of response to therapy.

For biospecimen or service requests, please submit the following request form by either email or hardcopy to Andy Kay, Daniel Estrada or Sergei Mareninov. The form can be downloaded here.
